The nearest galaxy to the Milky Way galaxy is the Andromeda Galaxy, also known as Messier 31 or M31. It is located about 2.537 million light-years away from us. Andromeda is a spiral galaxy similar in structure to the Milky Way and is the largest member of the Local Group, which is a collection of galaxies that includes our own Milky Way, the Andromeda Galaxy, and several smaller galaxies.
