Point Nemo: Remote Oceanic Pole
Point Nemo is the oceanic pole of inaccessibility, located in the South Pacific Ocean. It's the farthest point from any landmass, making it one of the most remote places on Earth. Named after Captain Nemo from Jules Verne's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," Point Nemo is approximately 2,688 kilometers (1,670 miles) from the nearest land, which is Ducie Island in the Pitcairn Islands.
This extreme isolation means that astronauts aboard the International Space Station are often closer to humans on the ISS than anyone on Earth when passing over Point Nemo.
It's a place of solitude in the vast expanse of the ocean, where nature remains largely untouched by human presence.
